When considering modes of displaying our installation within the exhibition, Hazel, Ellie and I decided that by mounting the distorted portraits on the wall with a scattering of painted frames we could subvert the traditions of classical portraiture. Because our work is rather erratic yet playful, bright colour would be beneficial for or project. As Hazel, Ellie and I both read Lauren Child’s books when we were younger, we felt that her illustrative and, again, playful style would work well with our collective style.
Child’s work itself is reminiscent of our own collages we have created and although they are intended for a younger audience, the composition of her illustrations are particularly helpful in informing our own, especially with the inclusion of text. Below are some examples of her work:
