Developing my sculpture through experimenting with burning books and origami strands.

I made sure to pay attention to the flame as it was fairly difficult to extinguish. It was also quite difficult to establish a flame that would continue to burn. The key to this was patience.

This was one of the more successful attempts at burning a book.

This is the charred effect, I feel, that would be most suited to my sculpture. The lower images encapsulated the total destruction of burning, yet the top two images depict how freedom is still present as not all of the book has been damaged.

Similar problems arose with the origami strands. Because the paper was folded, it was difficult to establish a strong flame in those areas. The wings burnt well which was particularly effective in depicting how the tools for freedom have been lost.
